CHENNAI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), in collaboration with the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and the National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA) will soon conduct training programmes for heads of affiliated schools in ‘Strategic Leadership and Management’.

The programme, beginning later this month, will be held in phases till December at the IIMs. On the objective of the programme, CBSE’s chairman Vineet Joshi Chairman told The Hindu that the initiative was aimed at sensitising principals on critical issues, improving managerial skills of heads, helping identify and implement suitable systems of appraisal and feedback and to create awareness of the role of technology in management of schools.

“The programme will equip principals to introduce and manage change within the school system in the context of rapid changes taking place in society,” he said.

The CBSE launched the programme in 2000, and later included more partners in the initiative. The NUEPA has been offering empowerment programmes for principals for last two decades and their input to this would be valuable, according to the CBSE.

“Heads of schools affiliated to the CBSE are always engaged with the extraordinary changes that are happening at an electrifying pace. Such programmes help deal with the complex world of education today with the rising expectations of parents, students and the community on the one hand, and the need for skill development and empowerment of teachers on the other.”
