DUBAI – The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India has formed an international committee to create a separate curriculum for schools that are affiliated to the board outside India.
The committee, which includes principals of schools in Dubai affiliated to CBSE, is working towards a curriculum that will be at par with other international curricula like the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Cambridge International Examinations.
Dr Farooq Wasil, head of Asian Schools at GEMS, who is a member of the committee, told Khaleej Times that the board was trying to introduce a curriculum that is more international
in nature.
“We want students to be learners and are aligning our pedagogy to international standards. We are working towards changing the evaluation framework which will provide more room for deeper learning rather than an assessment-based learning,” he said. In the UAE there are over 50 schools that are affiliated to the CBSE board.
Ashok Kumar, principal and CEO of the Indian High School Dubai, said the committee is suggesting changes in the curriculum that will be applied to schools affiliated to CBSE
utside India.
The committee will also look at providing a practical approach towards education while eliminating the written examination method of assessment.
